Apple Pie Protein Bars Recipe
These protein bars seriously taste like a dessert, but they contain way more protein than traditional apple pie. Sometimes I eat these in the morning for a fast pre workout snack, sometimes I have them as a tasty post dinner treat.
- 2 cups gluten free oat flour
- ½ cup coconut flour
- ½ cup vanilla vegan or paleo friendly protein powder
- 1 T cinnamon
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 cup almond butter (can sub for any nut butter)
- ½ cup agave nectar
- 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1 Tbsp soy milk
Mix the dry ingredients (flour, protein powder, cinnamon, nutmeg) in a large bowl and set aside.
Mix the nut butter and agave nectar in a bowl until combined, this might take some heating in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and mix well. Add in the apple sauce and soy milk to make a nice soft dough.
Roll the dough out onto parchment paper on a baking sheet. Roll it out to your desired thickness. Mine are about 1/2 an inch thick. Now set this baking sheet in the fridge for an hour.
Cut into your desired serving size and BAM! Homemade protein bars!
These have about 15 grams of protein and only 200 calories, so they are packed with that muscle building magic. Not to mention they are so yummy.
